The least labor intensive way to drain a pond is with a pond
bottom drain. It can be used in outdoor or indoor ponds. If you
want to have a bottom drain in your pond, remember to consider it when
designing your pond as you will need to install all necessary plumbing
equipment.
When building, slope your pond so that the water will drain faster
and the debris will be encouraged to go down the drain. The drain should
come with a dome or something else to protect your fish from getting
sucked into it. Most drains will come with instructions to explain how
to install it.
While installing a drain is a little extra work it will be well worth
it in the long run. A pond bottom drain will save you on hours of pumping
out your pond water.
