Without
pond lighting, your pond can still be beautiful… during the daytime.
But if you want your pond to be noticed within your nighttime landscape,
then you are definitely want to light it up. And for the best look,
you are going to want a variety of pond lighting – yes, you could
focus just on underwater lights or floating lights, etc. But a mixture
of multiple types of pond lighting is going to create the best effects.
· Floating pond lights – these are, perhaps, the easiest
lights to add to your pond. Basically, you just place them on the surface
of your pond and let them float around haphazardly, casting light wherever
they go. They are fun and great for parties.
· Spot lights and accent lights – these can be set to light
up very specific parts of your pond, like a fountain, spitter, or statue.
When setting up this type of pond lighting, think not only of the object
you are lighting up, but of the types of shadows you can cast (and where
you can cast them).
· Submerged pond lighting – some of the most interesting
effects can be created with underwater lights. These lights can either
be built directly into your pond or added later. Take advantage of how
water fragments light and casts interesting shadows.
Remember that you have many options available when it comes to pond
lighting – not just in terms of the types of pond lighting you
can purchase (and be sure to look into some solar options!), but in
terms of how you set it up. Chances are, the very first place you try
out your lights is not the best one. Try moving them around until you
are completely satisfied both with the lit up areas and the shadows
cast – think in terms of dark and light, in terms of contrast.
